It’s a truism that the journey of a thousand year starts with a step. Same is the story of how ODUNFA CAUCUS, the foremost film body, popular in the Yoruba film sector got ignited. It was not pre-meditated or planned. The thespians who formed the pillars of this noble caucus normally converged at 40, Odunfa Street, Ebute/Metta, Lagos as friends. And unconsciously there was unison in thoughts and mindsets. Precisely in 1986 the great ODUNFA CAUCUS was birth.
The journey has been smooth and rough, but believe this, it is just the grace of God and collective decision to give room for new talents who rises and mature within the ranks forms part of the driving force. The founders equally within the house choose to respect each other’s view and decide not to give room for open or public confrontation.
However, in the past 30yrs, Odunfa Caucus has produced wonderful talents and has injected them into the main stream Nigerian movie industry. In the last 2 decades till now, some still believe that if you haven’t featured in any of Odunfa’s jobs, you are yet to be known as a great actor. Without going into lengthy individual details of stars and top thespians that Odunfa have produced, the caucus is proud to say some of its products are top actors in the country, a large number are brands ambassadors and force to reckon with in the Nigerian entertainment world.
Yorubamoviegist.com gathered that, the board members: Alh. Yinka Quadri, Alh Taiwo Hassan, Alh Abiodun Olanrewaju, Rasaq Ajao & Chief Kakawa Abiodun decides to unite all the products and alumni of Odunfa Caucus, to show appreciation to God and few others and invariably re-brand the citadel into a more formal film school so that the legacy won’t die. However, the caucus has lined up programmes for the 30years celebration which will last for 2 days. The announcement was made via Abbey Lanre, a co-founder of the group. The programme includes:
Day 1: Prayer & Charity Activities to the resident widows, widowers & less privilege.
Day 2: Grand Finale, Awards presentation, and N35million Fund Raising for the ODUNFA CAUCUS Theatre & Films Institute.
