These actors are unarguably giants in their own line of business. Though, some of them have been in the industry for years, while some joined the industry not too long ago but they’ve pave ways for themselves. However, our contributing editor, GBOLAHAN ADETAYO presents to you 50 popular Nollywood actors who were made and have been rocking the industry for years.

 

JIMI SOLANKE

Jimi Solanke is a respected Nigerian film actor, dramatist, folk singer, poet and playwright. Solanke graduated from the University of Ibadan, where he obtained a diploma certificate in drama. After graduation, Solanke moved to the United States, where he created a drama group called The Africa Review, focusing on African culture. Members of this group usually put on African clothing, specifically Yoruba costume. They performed in black African schools. Solanke established himself in Los Angeles, California, where his storytelling career began. He was described as a “master storyteller” by CNN. In 1986, he returned to Nigeria with three members of the African Review group to work with the Nigerian Television Authority. His reputation earned him the lead role in most of Ola Balogun’s films. He was part of the team that made the film of Kongi’s Harvest by Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka. He is from Ipara Remo, Ogun State, born into Lisa Family in Ile-Edu compound.

 

PAPA AJASCO

He comes across on the tube as an incurable womanizer with so much money to throw around his harem of women. But in practicality, Abiodun Ayoyinka aka Papa Ajasco is not. He is the first to play the role of Papa Ajasco from the stable of Wale Adenuga. He was excluded from the weekly TV series, but later be re-invited to continue from where he stopped. He is also from Ipara Remo, Ogun State.

 

 

OLU JACOBS

Oludotun Jacobs popularly known as Olu Jacobs is a veteran actor rocking Nollywood. Though, he sometimes appears in some Yoruba movies. He has starred in several British television series and international films. In 2007 he won the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role. Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs was born to parents from Egba Alake, Abeokuta, Ogun State in 1942 and attended Holy Trinity School in Kano. He trained at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London.

 

TUNDE KELANI

Tunde Kelani holds a Diploma in the Art and Technique of Filmmaking from the London International Film School, London. After many years in the Nigerian Film Industry as a Cinematographer, he now manages Mainframe Film & Television Productions, an outfit formed to document Nigeria’s rich culture. He is a prominent indigene of Egba, Ogun State.

DELE ODULE

Veteran Yoruba actor cum the President of the Theatre Arts Motion Picture Practitioners Association of Nigeria {TAMPAN}, Prince Dele Odule is a prominent indigene of Ogun State. He is from Ijebu Oru, a neighbouring town to Ijebu-Ode. He is a graduate of Mass Communication from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye. A degree he bagged in March 2012.

 

MUYIWA ADEMOLA

For Muyiwa Ademola, whose father was a clergyman became an actor over 2 decades ago. The Ibadan, Oyo State based actor has since proven himself as a grounded actor, standing tall as one of the most respected actors. He has produced, acted and directed popular movies including ‘Ori’ in 2004, ‘Igi Owo’ in 2009 and ‘Ise Imole’. He is from a royal family in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

 

AYO ADESANYA

For Nollywood actress, Ayodele Adesanya, she hails from Ijagun, ijebu in Ogun State but many do not know. She attended St. Ann school at Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State and later proceeded to the University of Ibadan where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in Mass communication.

 

 

RONKE ODUSANYA

Ronke Odusanya aka Flakky Ididowo was born into the family of Mr. and Mrs. Odusanya over 3 decades ago In Lagos State; but her parent are from Abeokuta, Ogun State. She attended ST. Benedicts Nursery and Primary School, Akoka Lagos. She also went to the Federal Government Girls College; Akure  and from there went to Ogun State University now known as Olabisi Onabanjo. She graduated with Bachelor of Art Degree.

 

 

TOYOSI ADESANYA

Toyosi Adesanya Ilesanmi is one of the faces changing the power equation in the Yoruba genre of the movie industry. For more than a decade now that the Nollywood star came into limelight, she has not for once looked back and she is currently a force to be reckoned with. Though, she is married and now based in Ondo State, she is from Sagamu, Ogun State and she grew up in Abeokuta.

 

 

KEMI AFOLABI

Talking about the hot babes in the Yoruba movie genre of Nollywood, the list will not be completed if Kemi Afolabi is excluded. She is one of the actresses who joined the industry not quiet long but rocking the scene. Having studied law at the University Of Lagos (UNILAG), Kemi’s journey into the industry was by accident as she was convinced by a producer who told her she has the look and offered her some movie roles to play. She later developed the interest in 2006. She is from Ayepe Ijebu, Ogun State.

 

 

TOYIN ADEWALE

Star actress, Toyin Adewale is a household name in the Yoruba movie industry. This beautiful woman also appears in some English productions. She started acting right from primary school, and professionally, in 1988. Toyin Adewale’s 1st major film was ‘Irepodun,’ from the stable of Korede Films, where she played the lead role. Since then, there hasn’t been any stopping for her. She has featured in a couple of English soap operas as well. She is from Odogbolu, Ogun State. If you must know, she is the mother of Mayorkun, a wave making music star under Davido’s record label.

 

 

AINA GOLD

Aina Gold is a veteran actor In the Yoruba movie industry known for his fantastic roles in most movies emanating from the industry. Apart from acting, he is also into real estate business and he is the boss of Multi-Gold constructing company. He owns Aina Gold Estate located in Lagos and Ogun State. His parents are from Owu, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

 

 

DUPE JAYEOSIMI

Veteran actress, Dupe Jayeosimi is one actress who many up and coming actresses look up to as their role model. She has done so many things for herself in the industry which makes her name a force to reckon with at all times. Though, she is based in Ibadan Oyo State but she is from Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State.

 

 

PA KASUMU

Francis Olukayode Olugbenga Odumosu aka Pa Kasumu was born on March 16, 1953 in Abeokuta, Ogun State. He is an actor, known for Baba Insurance (2009), Sàngó: The Legendary African King (1998) and Jesu Mushin (2002).

 

 

KEJI YUSUF

Keji Olubunmi Yusuf was born on September 29, 1957 in Ijebu, Ogun State. She is one actress known for Odun Baku (2006), 13th Day: Ojó ketàlá (2005) and Ologbo iya ijebu (2007).

 

JAYE KUTI

To any keen follower of Nollywood, Jaiye Kuti is not a new name. And that’s because she’s one woman who has paid her dues in the industry. Jaiye Oluwakemi Kuti (not a relation of the Ransome Kuti family) joined the make-believe profession some years back, and has made a name in it. Born into the family of Mr. and Mrs. Kuti in South West Nigeria, Jaiye, is a native of Ilaro in Ogun State.

 

BUKKY WRIGHT

The sexy Nollywood screen goddess and movie producer known as Bukky Wright is one of the best in the trade of acting in the Nigeria Movie Industry. She is among the most successful actresses in Nigeria and command good money when asked to act in a movie production. She is a Charming and Elegant actress born Oluwabukola Sekinat Ajoke Wright on the 31 of March 1967 in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

 

 

OLAIYA IGWE

Alhaji Lukmon Ebun Oloyede, popularly known as Olaiya Igwe, Is a Hard Working Nollywood Actor. The dark complexioned actor discovered the positive influence of tribal marks when he met late Chief Adeyemi Afolayan(aka Ade Love), who wore facial marks and still attained stardom as an actor-cum-film maker. He was born in Kenta, Oke-Ejigbo Abeokuta, Ogun State. He attended St. Judes Primary School, Abeokuta. He completed his secondary school education at the Premier Grammar School also in Abeokuta.

 

TAIWO HASSAN OGOGO

Taiwo Hassan popularly known as Ogogo, who is the second in command of Odufa caucus, a leading Yoruba movie group in Lagos was born on 31st October, 1959 in Ilaro, Ogun State. He delved into movie several years ago when he was working with the Nigerian Water Corporation.

 

ENIOLA BADMUS

The Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State born plus size actress, Eniola Badmus has been hitting it big in Nollywood. After featuring in Blackberry Babes, she became hot in demand by the English language speaking movie producers, especially in comic roles. Eniola has been so busy, grabbing roles after roles. She is also a brand ambassador to several multinational companies.

 

 

IYABO OJO

Iyabo Ojo is a graduate of Lagos State Polytechnic where she studied Estate Management. She was introduced into the industry by Bimbo Akintola in 1997 and starred in Keppy Ekpeyong’s movie, ‘Satanic’ in 1998. After her short stint, marriage and motherhood took her off the scene and in 2001, she returned but this time, pitched her tent with the Yoruba industry. She joined the Odunfa caucus which had the trio of Yinka Quadri, Taiwo Hassan and Abbey Lanre as coordinators. Iyabo was born on December 21, 1977 in Lagos, but hails from Itoko, a suburb of Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.

 

DAYO AMUSA

Business woman, actress and movie producer, Dayo Amusa is the first child of her family. She was born and grew up in Surulere Lagos to Engineer father, Kolawole Amusa. She began her foray into Nollywood in 2002 and has since then managed to become a popular face, clinched a few awards and even produced a couple of movies including ‘Dewunmi Iberu’ and ‘Ajegbodo’ via her Amzadol Productions. Her mum is from Iperu Remo, Ogun State.

 

LAJA OGUNDE

Laja Ogunde is an actor known for Tibi Tire Laye (2009). He took after his late dad, Hubert Ogunde who is the pioneer of the movie industry in Nigeria. He is from Ososa metropolitan area of Ogun State. A town beside Ijebu-Ode.

 

SEGUN OGUNGBE

Segun Ogungbe was born in Abeokuta, Ogun State to the family of Akin Ogungbe. A veteran Yoruba actor, who died in November 2012. He had featured, directed and produced several hit films such as Ite Oba and the rest.

 

TAYO AMOKADE

OLATAYO AMOKADE a.k.a Ijebu was born in Ilisan Remo, Ogun State, a town where Babcock University is located. Though, he had secretly been imitating his father ways of dressing, just to practice the profession days back in his village, but acting for him started a few years ago when he was at Ibadan Polytechnic for his National Diploma in Mass Communication. He joined the industry through Muyiwa Ademola Authentic School of Drama. After that, he worked with another comic actor, Olaniyi Afonja a.k.a Sanyeri as his P.A/Manager for years before the shot of his debut film titled, Muniru ati Ambali written by Sanyeri and produced by Ijebu.

 

OWOLABI AJASA

Owolabi Ajasa was born in Odeda Local Govt Area of Ogun State. He was brought up at Mosalasi Jimoh, Kemta-Kobiti, Abeokuta South Local Govt. He attended All Saint Anglican primary schooG, Kemta-Kobiti, Abeokuta. He proceeded to Nawaur-Ur-Deen grammar School, Obantoko Abeokuta. He later gained admission at the Moshood Abiola polytechnic, Ojere Abeokuta. He’s a very simple, quiet, humble and a policy person.

 

YOMI FASH LANSO

Oluwayomi Fash Lanso, is Actor, Writer and Director, who hails from Ogun State. Born June 7th 1968. He is a graduate of the University of Lagos Akoka, Lagos State. He started acting professionally in February 1995.

 

TOPE OSOBA

Some have called her the most beautiful and sexiest actress rocking the Yoruba sector of Nollywood right now. Either they are right or not, it is all left to the eyes to do the seeing. At least they say ‘seeing is believing’. Delightfully Tope started out as a video vixen until, according to her, acting found her when she featured in a movie titled Ijoya which registered her face and name on people’s minds. Tope is right now doing well for herself in the industry. She is from Abeokuta, Ogun State.

 

KEMI STONE

One of the most promising actresses made by the industry a few years back is curvy actress, Kemi Stone.  Though, she ventured into acting in 2007 based on the passion she had for the profession after watching series of Wale Adenuga’s Super Story and Paloma. She attended Pencil Film Institute to study acting after which she met a couple of friends who invited her to several movie auditions together at the National Theatre,  Iganmu, Lagos. She is from Isara Remo, Ogun State.

 

TAYO SOBOLA

Tayo Sobola popularly known in the Nigerian entertainment circle as Sotayo is not resting her oars. She has always been working time without numbers to produce fantastic movie for her fans. The vibrant actress is from Obafemi, Ogun State.

 

MARYAM OLOLADE

Mustapha Maryam Ololade is one actress with several dexterities. She is a Law graduate of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago -woye, Ogun State. She was Born and brought up in Lagos Island, but she’s from Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State. She came into the industry in 2003 via Olalekan Ojo better known as Gbatami’s caucus. She also went to African Spirit School of Performing Arts. Her first appearance was in the movie titled “OWO ASELA” by Gbatami in 2004. Today, she’s one of the hot actresses rocking the industry.

YETUNDE BAKARE

Yetunde Bakare, a native of Ogun State based in Lagos studied Micro Biology at the University of Ado Ekiti. She delved into acting in 2009 due to her passion for the job. She got tutelage by Saheed Balogun. She produced her first movie AJOBI in 2013 and ASIYAN. She has also featured in lots of movies like Alani Babalabake, Awon Okunrin, Iyawo Teacher, Amisu, Morenikeji, Super Mum, Omo Olodo, The Circle to mention but a few.

 

 

 TOMIWA ALAJOGUN

U.K –based actor, producer and music act, Tomiwa Alajogun, is on the verge of making his mark in the Nigerian movie industry. Film lovers have begun to see his impact from April 2014 when he premiered his two films. The movies directed by Tunde Ola Yusuf featured the likes of Jide Kosoko, Ayo Adesanya and Lola Ajibola. The producer, who horn his talent at the Manchester school of acting, has featured in a couple of U.K weekly programmes. His father is from Imeko Afon, Ogun State.

 

HANNAH ADEJOKE

Charming Hannah Adejoke Olayinka is one of the beautiful babes rocking the scene in Abeokuta, Ogun State. She is head tuner any day and she has been able to keep her curves intact. Her outfits always accentuate her curves. Ajoke got into acting in 2011 with the Agunla caucus in Abeokuta owns by Jimoh Olayemi before she later joined Senior Network Communications for further experience. She’s from Ake, Abeokuta.

Sultry Pamilerinayo Abolaji Johnson better known as Pretty Princess is currently registering her name among other promising entertainers in Nigeria. The Ogun State born is a graduate of Yoruba Language at Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State. Your first contact with her, one will be forced to talk to her, this is because of her elegant look. Tosin is from Ago-Iwoye, Ogun state.

 

LATEEF ADEDIMEJI

Abdulateef Adetola Adedimeji is one of the wave making actors in the Yoruba movie industry. He joined the industry a couple of years ago but he has been able to carve a niche for himself in the industry. He is from Abeokuta Ogun State.

TAYO ODUEKE

Temitayo Odueke, popularly known as Sikiratu Sindodo is a well-known actress in the industry. The University of Lagos drop out is from Ijebu-Ode Ogun State.

 

LOLA AJIBOLA

Omoba Adebola’s producer, Lola Ajibola is one actress to be called Iya Ogun state (the mother of Ogun State). Apart from the fact that she was born at the Molusi compound in Ijebu Igbo, she has lived all her life in the state. She graduated and worked at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, before she delved into acting. She lived in Ijebu-Ode before she finally decided to relocate to Lagos in 2015.

 

YOMI FABIYI

For Yomi Fabiyi, he is a fine boy actor women admired a lot. The very articulate and eloquent is also an indigene of Ogun State. He was born in Lagos but he is from Iporo Sodeke, Abeokuta.

 

SHOLLY POP

Olusola Dorcas Popoola popularly known as Shollypop is a renowned actress, who resides in Ibadan, Oyo State. She is from Ijebu, Ogun State.

 

BIMPE AKINTUNDE

Bimpe Akintunde has done wonderfully well for herself especially when she produced a popular movie entitled Bimpe Omotodun, which probably shot her to stardom. Before Bimpe Omotodun Production, she shot a movie she titled Omo Eleja. She is from Ijebu in Ogun State.
