Roselyn Adebayo otherwise known as Duni is one of the stars in the making currently making a statement in the Yoruba movie industry. She developed interest in acting when she was young but when she came to Lagos 2002; she joined Actor Guild of Nigeria (AGN) at the National Theatre, Ignamu Surulere, Lagos-Nigeria.
A few years after, Dunni relocated to Iyana Ipaja, Lagos which denied her privilege to be attending AGN’s rehearsals in Surulere, she then took a decision to join a Yoruba movie caucus headed by Adewale Alebiosu but she later left to be a member of Aina Gold’s caucus where she got the necessary experience she needed to be successful in acting.
Apart from acting, Roselyn is also working as a documentation officer with Cargo Air Company at MM2, Airport, Ikeja. She shot her debut movie titled Odo Inu recently and it was launched at Quadosh Events Center, Agidingbi Lagos a few days ago.
Talking about her challenges in the industry with Yorubamoviegist.com, she said,” sexual harassment is a major challenge women faces in the entertainment world, but as for me, I know what I want, I didn’t allow any of them to intimidate me, if you don’t want to give me the role to play, then go to hell.
There was a movie location I attended and the Production Manager walked up to me and say you are sleeping in my room tonight and I rejected that immediately, I moved to the reception to sleep there but he instructed the receptionist not to allow me, I had no option than to leave the premises to a place I don’t know in the village, this was around 1am.
I saw a Baba Ijebu’s kiosk and I entered to just keep myself till day break, I was beaten by mosquitoes.
Exactly 2am, Odu’a Peoples’ Congress (OPC) members came around, they were smoking wild and the smoke was disturbing me, I couldn’t cough because they must not know I was there, I had to endure. The following day, I wasn’t myself, I don’t know what would have happened if they got to know I was in the kiosk, that was how sexual harassment would have ruined my career.
That was the last time I go to location without having money to get my own room in the hotel. When I visited the location to pick up my belongings, he was asking me where I slept but my response wasn’t welcomed at all. I kept the story to myself because I am still building my career and I don’t want some irrelevant people to use that against me. It would have been worse if he raped me that night, I am glad God was with me, if not that, anything could have happened.”
